The compact, Full Frame F2.8 wide-angle zoom lens is well suited to α-frames, as its advanced lens technology allows the frame's performance to be exploited, from an ultra-wide 16mm to a 25mm focal length. The outstanding resolution and bokeh of the G LensTM is achieved across the entire range, while precise AF means fast, sharp focus. Great for both wide-angle photos and video.
Sharp and detailed at all focal lengths
Three ED lens elements and four aspherical lens elements (including one ED aspherical element) provide excellent resolution from 16 mm to 25 mm. Flare, ghosting and chromatic aberration are reduced for clear images, and the F2.8 and 11 aperture blend create stunning G Lens bokeh. At the wide end of the zoom range, magnification is max. 0.2x (AF)/0.23x (MF) 0.18m (AF)/0.17m (MF) at minimum focal length for great close-ups.
AF that makes the most of high-performance frames
The two specially optimised linear motors and precision control system focus on any subject with lightning speed and accuracy. Tracking performance is also excellent: at up to 120 frames per second, it's fully in step with Sony's state-of-the-art α9 III.
Even when shooting high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p video, it delivers smooth, precise, quiet focus.
A compact F2.8 zoom lens you can take anywhere
This innovative, high-performance optical design features four aspherical lens elements, including an ED element, a large maximum aperture of F2.8, and measures just 74.8mm in diameter and 91.4mm long (3 x 3-5/8 inches). Made from engineered plastic components, the F2.8 is more durable, but weighs just 409 grams, which means minimal strain during long shoots or in low-light situations.
The constant F2.8 available in the mobile zoom is great for videos
The wide-angle F2.8 aperture in a compact, lightweight, handheld zoom lens and quiet AF are great for video. Because zoom extension and centre of gravity shift are minimal, it can be mounted on a gimbal or drone. Combined with the Active Mode stabilisation built into the body, you can capture stable wide-angle shots while walking and holding the camera in your hand. It also supports angle of view compensation and metadata recording.
Comprehensive control in a compact lens
