With this addition to the G Series, Sony continues to blur the lines between G and GM lenses, offering its users exceptional quality at a reduced cost. This lens features internal zoom for improved functionality as well as dual linear motors for smooth, quick AF performance. The FE 400-800 mm F6.3-8 G OSS is the first α Lens with a super telephoto range from 400 mm to 800 mm. With the optional 2x teleconverter, the maximum focal length can be extended to 1600 mm. The internal zoom means the lens length is unchanged and the centre of gravity remains within a small range, providing stability for handling. The smooth, easy-turn zoom ring allows precise zooming, while the well thought-out design prevents the focal length from being accidentally altered.

State-of-the-art optical design for high resolution and natural bokeh throughout the zoom range

Chromatic aberration is effectively controlled by six ED (extra-low dispersion) glasses. Glare and ghosting in backlit conditions have also been significantly reduced. When photographed at shallow depth of field, the 11 blade circular blend creates a beautiful spherical bokeh with exceptionally smooth, soft background bokeh.

Fast, accurate AF captures even fast-moving subjects

For fast, accurate focusing, the lens' focusing element assembly is driven by two precision linear motors. Subject tracking effortlessly keeps pace with the α9 III's 120 frames per second continuous shooting speed, and it doesn't stop while zooming in so you never miss an important moment. In cases where subjects are at different distances, you can use a focal range limiter (FULL / 10m-NEAR / ∞-8m) to optimise operation. For refined, film-like quality, the lens eliminates angle-of-view variation and quiet operation allows for a wide range of applications.

Stable support for handheld or tripod shooting

The optically stabilised FE 400-800 mm F6.3-8 G OSS can be extended up to 800 mm, yet weighs only 2475 grams and you don't have to worry about blurring from shake when holding the camera in your hand. Stabilisation is further improved when using an α-frame with image stabilisation capability. If you use a tripod, the support leg can be quickly rotated according to whether the orientation is horizontal or vertical. Durable components, optimised balance and a non-removable foot ensure maximum reliability and performance.

High level of controllability and reliability in all situations

Three focus lock knobs, adjustable in 90-degree increments around the lens barrel, provide easy access in any orientation. Other functions can be assigned to the knobs as required. Internal zoom and dust and moisture resistant design for maximum reliability. The front element's fluorine coating repels dirt and makes cleaning the lens easy. The newly designed lens hood features a lock button and filter aperture for easy handling.
