The Blackmagic Design SmartView 4K G3 is a professional 15.6" TFT LCD monitor that features built-in optical and copper SMPTE‑2110 IP video connections so you can connect directly to IP-based broadcast systems. It has a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 and also offers two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs for connecting to a range of pro video equipment. The inputs automatically switch between SD, HD, and 4K formats, including up to DCI 4K60. Its design features a lightweight machined aluminum chassis and a full-resolution UHD 4K LCD screen. The on-screen overlays include focus peaking, framing guides, safe area, and more. It also has built-in 3D LUTs for adding creative looks, converting log film gamma, or handling custom HDR profiles.
Versatile Monitoring Solution
- The SmartView 4K G3 supports both 12G-SDI and SMPTE 2110 IP video resolutions up to UHD 4K60, making it ideal for broadcast use.
- Its 4K display and imaging features like focus peaking, zoom, aspect ratio markers, and tally make it perfect for live productions.
- The 6 RU lightweight yet durable aluminum construction makes the SmartView 4K G3 a great solution for fly packs and location use.
3D LUT Monitoring
Say goodbye to the washed-out look of SDI sources that are encoded with log film gamma or an HDR profile, the SmartView 4K G3 includes support for 3D LUTs. This means you can use a 3D LUT to remap the SDI or 2110 input color space to the SmartView 4K screen or to add an exciting creative look. You can upload 3D LUTs using the SmartView utility and also export DaVinci Resolve color grades as custom 3D LUTs.
Multiple Resolution Support
The high-performance 12G-SDI and 10G Ethernet-based 2110 IP inputs are all multi-rate so they support lower resolution SD for archive, HD for broadcast, and 2K UHD for feature film use. The SmartView 4K G3 also supports UHD video standards on both its 12G-SDI and 10G Ethernet-based 2110 IP video inputs. This makes the SmartView 4K an ideal monitor because it enables you to migrate to UHD and 4K work now and new television standards can be added via software updates as they are created.
Front Panel Buttons and Customizable Frame Markers
The SmartView 4K G provides a wide range of front panel monitoring controls including an input button that selects between the two 12G-SDI video inputs and the 2110 IP video input. Additional controls include brightness, H/V display, blue only, zoom, focus peaking, 3D LUT selection, and up to four on-screen markers.
NMOS Protocol for Virtual Routing
The SmartView 4K G3 supports the NMOS interface specifications so all your 2110 IP video devices can operate together as a large virtual router. It also offers Videohub Smart Control that can route sources to destinations on 2110 IP networks because it can act as an NMOS controller. The NMOS interface specification describes how SMPTE 2110 devices are discovered and controlled on IP networks. SmartView 4K G3 supports IS-04 for discovery and registration of IP video devices and IS-05 for connection management between IP video devices. This means you can make connections between sources and destinations just like a traditional SDI router.
macOS and Windows Remote Control Software
Simply download and run the free SmartView utility macOS or Windows software to change settings or update the software on your SmartView 4K G3. Use the utility to change the monitor's custom name for identifying monitors in larger systems and to select between 3G-SDI level A and level B formatting. To protect against unauthorized network access, Ethernet is disabled by default but can be enabled when connecting via USB.
Connects Directly to SMPTE 2110 IP Networks
The SmartView 4K fully conforms to the SMPTE‑2110 standard for IP video with both optical fiber and copper 10G Ethernet connections, enabling you to build modern IP video systems. SMPTE‑2110 specifies the transport, synchronization, and description of video, audio, and ancillary data over IP networks for broadcast. This includes support for SMPTE‑2110-20 uncompressed video, the Blackmagic IP codec for high frame rate Ultra HD as well as SMPTE‑2110-21 traffic shaping/timing, SMPTE‑2110-30 audio, and SMPTE‑2110-40 support for ancillary data. Plus the selected video input can be sent out via the 10G Ethernet SMPTE‑2110 IP connection with full support for multicast out to multiple destinations.
Tally Border
Support for the Blackmagic SDI Tally Protocol provides the SmartView 4K G3 with an illuminated colored border around the image, in red for on-air or green for preview. This SDI tally standard is used on all ATEM live production switchers so you can simply connect the monitor to the switcher SDI outputs to get the image and the tally with a single BNC cable. This means that a director can cut between cameras and the tally information will be sent back to the SmartView 4K via the SDI video feed.
Custom Remote Solutions
Videohub includes a powerful remote control protocol so you can create custom remote control solutions for integrating the SmartView 4K G3 into your broadcast systems. It's extremely easy to learn because it's a simple text-based protocol that you can even play with using a Telnet client. This means you can create custom control solutions on all computer platforms and from embedded hardware such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino. It offers full control of LCD brightness, contrast, saturation, tally, input selection, and 3D LUT activation. The best way to learn the protocol is to log in using a simple Telnet app and then use the documentation in the SmartView 4K manual to try out each command.
