The new 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (model A063) is the successor to the popular and widely acclaimed 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD (model A036). The new lens is the result of continuous development and user feedback, but retains the compact size of its predecessor. The updated optical design offers improved imaging performance, making it compatible with the latest high-resolution camera bodies.
Fast and quiet VXD linear motor for high speed and precise focusing
Tamron's VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) motor provides faster autofocusing, and the 0.18m close-up point at the wide-angle position allows close-up photography with a 1:2.7 aspect ratio. Tamron has pioneered the development of high-brightness compact prime zooms for mirrorless cameras, and the new 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 is a true next-generation lens for everyday use.

Best image quality in the basic zoom category
The optical system was rebuilt from the ground up using the latest design techniques. The optical design, consisting of 17 elements arranged in 15 groups, minimises aberrations by using two appropriately positioned LD (Low Dispersion) and GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements. Image quality has been significantly improved with the aperture open compared to the previous A036 model, offering extremely high resolution throughout the zoom range, across the entire field of view, right up to the corners. The lens provides a beautifully soft background blur that is only found in high brightness models. The new 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 performs exceptionally well when paired with high-end, ultra-high resolution digital cameras, but from the outside it is the same size as its predecessor, the A036.
0.18 m close-up at wide angle of view with a 1:2.7 aspect ratio
The closest point (minimum adjustable object distance) of the A063 is 0.18 m at the wide-angle zoom position, which is better than its predecessor's 0.19 m. The working distance is thus reduced to about 4.4 cm. Thanks to the maximum 1:2.7 aspect ratio, photographers can get close to small subjects while the wide-angle perspective provides a spectacular image effect.
